Gonna’ Love That Doctor Strange on Blu-ray? UPDATED*
The March 1 3D Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases of Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange will go on sale virtually the same day as the US and include more than 80 minutes of extras.
About a neurosurgeon who becomes a sorcerer battling dark forces while searching for a cure to his horrific car accident injuries, Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Rachel McAdams.
As well as a commentary by director Scott Derrickson, there are five making-of shorts, five deleted scenes, a gag reel, sneak peeks of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War and a Team Thor, and a satirical reunion of Thor and his flatmate Darryl.
Blu-ray.com praised Disney for its “typically high-end 1080p transfer” and said the reference-quality DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 lossless soundtrack was “first-rate, never wanting for any more power or depth”.
The behind-the-scenes material includes:
- A Strange Transformation – How the filmmakers brought one of comic books’ greatest characters to life.
- Strange Company – What it’s like for the cast to work on a Marvel film, and how Derrickson engineered one of the most ambitious, imaginative entries in the Marvelverse.
- The Fabric of Reality – Behind the seams of the the movie’s meticulously crafted costumes, extraordinary sets and detailed production elements.
- Across Time and Space – Explore the hours of dance and fight choreography the actors endured in preparation for their physically demanding roles.
- The Score-cerer Supreme – Watch composer Michael Giacchino and a full orchestra during a live recording session.
The deleted scenes are:
- Strange Meets Daniel Drumm
- Kaecilius Searches for Answers
- The Kamar-Taj Courtyard
- Making Contact
- Lost in Kathmandu.
* Unfortunately, Sony Pictures NZ has just confirmed the Region B release is 5.1 only.

I have got the 3D version of Doctor Strange on pre-order with Mighty Ape, looking forward to it 🙂
Looks like I will be buying this movie from Amazon UK, which comes with a DTS HD Master audio 7.1 soundtrack.
Hi Philip. Do you know when the final series of Bates Motel will appear on Soho? The first episode of season five of Bates Motel was shown in the US on the 20th of February.
Yes, I know. I have been chasing Sky all week trying to find out why it’s not scheduled next month on SoHo. Last year they delayed its premiere by a month or so, then played double-eps to catch up. But given this is the final season, seems odd they haven’t been quicker to schedule it. Will let you know as soon as I hear back from Sky.
Thanks Philip
Happy to help. Don’t hesitate to submit programming info requests.
NZ buyers screwed again! If UK Region B cam get 7.1, why can’t NZ?
