Grand Designs Tops Skyscraper
Sunday’s return of TVNZ 1’s Grand Designs UK after a two-week break drew twice as many viewers in the core commercial demographic as the blockbuster movies on TVNZ 2 and Three.
It averaged a 34.5 share of 25-54 year-olds, or 76,601 viewers, vs Skyscraper’s 17.7 share (33,209) for TVNZ 2 and Joker’s 11.8 (21,224) for Three.
The gap wasn’t quite as wide in the next key demo, 18-49 year-olds, but Designs still dwarfed the competition with a 32.6 share and 56,260 viewers.
Skyscraper averaged an 18.9 share (28,219) and Joker 11.3 (16,105).
Three’s season premiere of Lego Masters Australia averaged a 25-54 share of 12.4 (33,442 viewers) and an 18-49 share of 21.1 (25,385).
Predictably it opened slowly against TVNZ 1 juggernaut Hyundai Country Calendar, which averaged a 25-54 share of 49.4 (133,369) and an 18-49 share of 48.9 (102,634).
The first half-hour was also trounced by the tail end of TVNZ 2’s Caught on Dashcam but thereafter it led TVNZ 2’s Kings of Pain.
However, it was no match for TVNZ 1’s 7.30 anchor, Sunday, which delivered 33+ shares in the core demos.
Designs’ lead-out The Surrogates debuted to 21 key-demo shares, to easily beat Joker and seesaw with Skyscraper.
Whakaata Māori’s movie Tracker averaged a 25-54 share of 1.2 and Eden’s 42 2.3 opposite Prime’s The White Lotus (1.2) and Yellowjackets (1.5).
Note: These overnight ratings exclude viewership of the networks’ +1 SD channels.
