Great Disney+ Deal and Debuts

Disney+ launched its “Blockbuster Offer” for subscribers the same day it announced Inside Out 2 will stream exclusively later this month.

The service is offering new and eligible returning subscribers, from now until September 28, three months of Disney+ Standard for only $14.99. (It auto renews at $14.99 a month. Eligibility criteria, T&C’s apply. To learn more or sign-up, visit www.disneyplus.com.)

According to Variety, “Disney wants to crank up Disney+ subscriber numbers ahead of the end of its September 2024 quarter — and before a new price increase takes effect.”

As a further incentive to new subscribers, Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 will stream on Disney+from September 25.

The highest-grossing animated film of all time, and the fastest animated film to reach $1 billion globally, it is currently the eighth highest-grossing film in global box office history.

The sequel returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Reads the blurb:

Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.

Maya Hawke lends her voice to Anxiety, alongside Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear, and Liza Lapira as Disgust.

Another late addition to this month’s previously underwhelming slate is season two of the Jeff Bridges spy thriller, FX’s The Old Man, the first two episodes of which landed today.

Also new, since earlier this month, is another FX highlight, The English Teacher.

“English Teacher makes no bones about the drudgery of faculty life while never feeling like homework, making for a biting and buoyant schoolhouse sitcom,” was the Rotten Tomatoes consensus.

Disney+ also has released the trailer for Searchlight Pictures’ Hold Your Breath, which streams from October 3.

The psychological horror-thriller was written and co-directed by Karrie Crouse (Westworld) and Will Joines (Com Truise: Propagation). Reads the blurb:

In 1930s Oklahoma, the Bellum family house sits in a valley of dirt while the clouds of dust block out the sun. Margaret (Sarah Paulson) and her two daughters, Rose (Amiah Miller) and Ollie (Alona Jane Robbins), tend to their sparse farm while Margaret’s husband has left in pursuit of work. As they struggle to survive the punishing environment of the Dust Bowl, a mysterious stranger (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) seeps in, threatening her family.
