Grimm News for Psycho Fans But Not Sleepy Hollow Hopefuls

American Horror Story may lead this year’s Emmy nominations, with 17, but that hasn’t stop MediaWorks relegating the second season and the HD Psycho spin-off, Bates Motel, to Four.

It’s galling to see HD production of this calibre languish in SD on Four when inferior fare like Chicago Fire gets plum peak-hour slots.

American Horror Story’s return to Four was expected, given it aired the first season, but Bates Motel, which has been renewed, would have made a terrific late-night addition to 3’s schedule, particuarly given star Vera Farmiga’s Emmy nomination.

Another HD series heading back to Four is season two of Grimm but not all spooky fantasies are Four-bound — 3 is heavily promoting Sleepy Hollow (above) as an opportunity for advertisers.

The newcomer from the writers of Transformers and Star Trek premieres in September on US and is said to be a cross between The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Underworld.

“A slick and tantalising re-imagining of the classic Washington Irving tale of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman, from Fringe producers and Star Trek Into Darkness co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

“Tom Mison (HBO’s Parade’s End) stars as 18th Century soldier Crane who somehow winds up in the 21st Century under the watch of a small town police officer (Nicole Beharie of Shame).”

Despite MediaWorks programming rights woes, it’s one of two new Fox shows that look set to air hot off the satellite here.

The other is season three of Homeland, which may screen here within a day of the US, as it did last year.

It’s scheduled for a September 29 resumption in the US, which would suit another 8.30 Monday showcasing here, presumably on the back of The Block NZ.

Sleepy Hollow sounds good but I wish Four would be tuned into HD. Perhaps the new owner will 🙂

  2. Finally, Bates Motel is coming to NZ, really looking forward to it and yes, one can hope of an HD upgrade for Four but considering the financial woes affecting MediaWorks its very unlikely. I just hope the reports of management who are questioning Four’s viability continue to support the channel and its growth, which has no doubt been a success for the company.

  3. Really ridiculous decision to screen these series on Four. I refuse to watch Grimm, American Horror Story and Bates Motel in SD on Four. They should be screening in HD on TV3. I will import these series on Blu-ray again, as I did with season one of Grimm and American Horror Story.

  4. Couldn’t agree more. Even better than their screening on 3 would be MediaWorks converting Four to HD, but that’s a longer shot than ever now post-receivership.

  5. I agree with you, Philip. It would be great if channel Four was converted to HD but not very likely to happen unfortunately.
