HD Cable Shows New Golden Globes Boss

All of this year’s Golden Globe best drama contenders have or will screen here in HD.

Three are SoHo properties — Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones and Boss (which will premiere in February) — and the others will screen on TV3: Homeland and American Horror Story.

3 also has FTA rights to SoHo’s The Killing and will continue with The Good Wife, which scored best TV drama actress nods for Mireille Enos and Julianna Margulies respectively.

Similarly, Jeremy Irons, of TV’s The Borgias, is up for best actor in a drama series, along with Boardwalk Empire’s Steve Buscemi, Boss’ Kelsey Grammer, Homeland’s Damian Lewis and Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston.

3 dominates the best comedy contenders, with Glee,  Modern Family and sister channel Four’s New Girl (albeit in SD) while two of TV One’s 2012 attractions will be Episodes, which will air in HD, and Enlightened (probably in HD, given it’s an HBO series that TVNZ struck a deal for ahead of Sky’s SoHo pact).

Enlightened’s Laura Dern is a best actress-in-a-comedy frontrunner while the stars of three comedies that air here in HD — Californication’s David Duchovny, The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki, Hung’s Thomas Jane — have been recognised, along with Episodes’ Matt LeBlanc.

Sky’s SoHo/Prime properties have made a clean sweep of the best mini-series/telemovies category — Cinema Verite, Downton Abbey, The Hour, Mildred Pierce, Too Big to Fail – and most have scored top acting nods, too.

Here’s a full list of the Globe TV (and movie) nominations while The Hollywood Reporter’s Tim Goodman already has assessed the nominations thus: “Don’t smack your forehead — it’s just the Globes.”

Similarly, Deadline Hollywood analyses why it’s been a big year for pay-TV.

Sky’s Vibe channel will screen the Ricky Gervais-hosted Globes ceremony live (but not in HD) from 2pm on January 16.

Sky Movies will air the Screen Actors Guild Awards live on January 30 (HD), E! the BAFTAs live on February 13 (SD), and Sky Movies the Academy Awards live on February 27 (HD).
