HD Heads-Up: Twilight, Bride Wars, Traitor

Twilight will make its HDTV premiere on February 7 when it screens 8.30pm on Sky Movies.

The teen vampire romance that could have been a 90210 with fans instead explores the mythology of the undead with the bewitching intrigue, if not adult sophistication, of TV’s True Blood.

The channel’s other HD premieres that week include Bride Wars (February 10, 8.30pm) and Traitor (February 12, 8.30pm).

The former is an Anne Hathaway-Kate Hudson comedy about best friends who fall out over getting married on the same day and was one of the worst-reviewed releases of 2009 (Variety called it “shrill, mechanical”); the latter is a nifty post-9/11 thriller that combines topical intrigue with nail-biting action and troubling ethical dilemmas about who’s really on the side of the angels.

It stars Don Cheadle as a devout Muslim-cum-US citizen who used to be a military troubleshooter for Uncle Sam – although his apparent involvement in an Islamic bombing campaign suggests otherwise to FBI nemesis Guy Pearce.
