HD Heads-Up: April 5

TVNZ 1 will use the Easter break to overhaul its failing Monday night schedule. From April 17, APB will shift to 9.30, replacing Blindspot, which moves to late-night Friday the same week. Both are gimmicky crime dramas that quickly lost their novelty value after initially buoyant ratings. It’s not yet know which drama will take over the 8.30 hour but chances are it will be ratings warhorse Criminal Minds — although it would be great to see the network shake up its procedural block with a British newcomer like Prime Suspect: Tennison, a prequel to the ’90s benchmark cop show …

TVNZ 1 will use the movie, Saving Mr Banks, to spearhead the Monday night change. The network’s other Easter Weekend highlights will include Royal Variety Performance 2016 (7.00 Saturday), Attenborough’s Birds of Paradise (7.00 Sunday) and a re-run of Secret Life of Twins (7.55 Sunday) …

The same week TVNZ 1 will premiere Leigh Hart’s extreme fishing series, Screaming Reels (11.00 Thursday), two days after its SD debut on Duke and ahead of a new season of British comedy Uncle (11.30 Thursday) …

TVNZ 2’s Easter Weekend highlights will be limited to movies, including the free-to-air premiere of Cinderella (6.15 Sunday). The network’s other HD coming attractions that week will include: Mr Magorium’s Wonder Emporium (7.00 Saturday), Cast Away (8.50 Sunday), Won’t Back Down (12.40am Sunday) and Premonition (11.30 Sunday) …

TVNZ 2’s run of Tuesday night action movies will end next week with Lockdown. Taking over the slot from April 18 will be new seasons of Grey’s Anatomy (8.30) and Empire (9.30). The latter has just resumed its third season in the US after a three-month break …

Guesting this week on Prime’s The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon are: Vin Diesel, Shaquille O’Neal and Pitbull featuring Stephen Marley (1.30 today); Blake Shelton and Scott Eastwood (11.30 tonight); Dwayne Johnson, Nicole Richie and musical guest Flo Rida featuring 99 Percent (11.30 Thursday); and Jay Leno, Kate Upton and Jason Derulo featuring Ty Dolla $ign (11.30 Friday) …

It’s a shame TVNZ aren’t on Apple TV like Three are as it’s excellent 🙂

  2. Trevor: we find air playing from the TVNZ OnDemand app on iPhone to Apple TV works perfectly. The quality is very good, too.
