HD Heads-Up: August 10 – 16

➢➢ Impossible Builds (TVNZ 1, 8.30 Tuesdays from August 13) follows the exploits of tenacious families building extraordinary kit homes where conventional construction techniques prove impossible. It promises to be a visually dazzling series. The producers told Broadcast magazine: “We didn’t want the CGI to distract from the dramatic landscapes, so we developed semi-translucent, white models of the houses for the virtual cameras to ‘fly through’. We also supplied 360-degree ‘globes’ using photos of the plots to provide a backdrop … Augmented reality (AR) embedded the CG models in the real-world footage. We overlaid the house designs on tracking drone shots and highlighted interesting technical details of the build process” …

➢➢ In The Posh Frock Shop (TVNZ 1, 8.30 Thursdays from August 15), London boutique designer Ian Stuart helps everyone from blushing brides to extravagant VIPs dress to impress. Said The Irish Times: “In an era of sophisticated reality shows where young wannabes seem perfectly primed for their 15 minutes of fame from birth, it’s a welcome change to find a show that’s populated by people who mostly appear not to want to be on TV” …

➢➢ Rocket Science (ThreeLife, 8.30 Tuesdays from August 13) is a two-part documentary about the launch of four Galileo telescopes into European satellite orbit featuring exclusive footage and CGI re-enactments …

➢➢ The three-part Queen Victoria & Her Nine Children (Prime, 8.30 Tuesdays from August 13) explores the truth behind the passionate relationship between Victoria and Albert, and how the Queen resented her children for getting in the way of it …

➢➢ Bad Tenants, Rogue Landlords (Prime, 9.30 Wednesdays from August 14) delves into the dark side of the UK’s housing crisis, following victims and villains on both sides of the buy-to-let battlefield. If the series sounds familiar, it previously aired as Nightmare Tenants, Slum Landlords
