HD Heads-Up: August 26-September 1
➢➢ It’s another big week for live free-to-air sport. Duke complements its nightly primetime 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup coverage with US Tennis Open action that airs 6am daily from August 29. And two days later, TVNZ 2 broadcasts from 4.30am the first T20 cricket match between England and New Zealand, with the second to follow on September 2. Ironically, the network that usually airs the most live primetime FTA sport, Prime, has only NPC: Northland vs Hawke’s Bay (7.00 Friday). But its off-peak live games include Heartland Championship: King Country Vs Whanganui Live (2.30 Saturday) and Farah Palmer Cup Live: Waikato Vs Wellington (2.00 Sunday) …
➢➢ The Murder of Logan Mwangi (TVNZ 1, 9.30 Monday) follows the investigation into the discovery of a five-year-old dumped in a river just yards from his home in South Wales that led to the conviction of his mother, her boyfriend, and a teenage boy for his murder …
➢➢ Lost in France (Prime, 8.30 Wednesday) has Carlos Spencer and Matua Parkinson tackle a tour of a different type — a four-part travelogue …
➢➢ Underground Railroad – The Secret History (Whakaata Māori, 7.30 Friday) is a new series that the Wall Street Journal said “highlights some of what we already know about the historic escape routes for slaves while adding plenty of new discoveries and endpoints … The series commits some aesthetic crimes—the music is overwrought and intrusive; every story from the past is made into a heroic epic, which isn’t always warranted and throws off the balance of the history being recounted. But the investigative aspects make the show worth watching, as do the means by which the detectives make their case” …
➢➢ Returning are Just for Laughs (Three, 8.30 Thursday) and Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr (TVNZ 1, 8.30 Friday) while ending their runs are The Bay, Weather Gone Viral, The Brokenwood Mysteries, Your Home Made Perfect and Young Sheldon …

Been watching some late night FTA and couldn’t help but notice several shows that originally screened on TV3 – House, Outrageous Fortune – are now filling the late hours on TVNZ. House appears to be shown in two 3-episode blocks every week. Great for insomniacs and binge watchers. 🙂
