HD Heads-Up: December 5 – 11

While MediaWorks awaits NZ On Air’s funding decision on the future of its proposed serial, Trinity Point, fans of TV2’s soaps face a slippery scheduling slope.

In the week starting December 5, TV2 will screen double-episodes of Home and Away, but only on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, from 5.30-6.30, while Neighbours and Shortland Street will wind up for the year later that week.

Neighbours will end on the Friday but Thursday’s Shortland Street looks like being the year’s last original broadcast (on the Friday TV2 will re-run the movie Mirror Mirror at 7.00).

The Thursday billing certainly sounds like a season cliffhanger — “Love overcomes all for Harper; and a dark shadow falls over Shortland Street” — unless the show goes out with a movie-length bang on Monday, December 14.

The Home and Away double-eps are due to Channel Seven screening them this way across the Tasman, and TV2 is obliged to follow suit, pre-empting Friends on those nights.

Otherwise, there’s scarcely anything new in HD of note to report for December 5-11, other than World’s Fattest Man: A Love Story (TV2, 8.30 Tuesday) and a raft of (mid)season finals so the networks can clear their decks for Christmas movies and specials.

Exiting are The Block NZ, The Muppets, Supergirl, Shameless, Empire, Mom, The Flash, Arrow and Kevin McCloud’s Escape to the Wild.

Returning to TV3 are Survivor (Cambodia: Second Chance will air post-4.30 weeknights), Shark Tank (8.30 Monday) and Bullseye (7.30 Friday).

TV3 also has the network movie premieres of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (9.00 Saturday) and Super 8 (8.30 Thursday), and will re-run Shrek Forever (7.00 Saturday) and Cyrus (10.30 Sunday).

Chris Hemsworth, Ron Howard, Lily Tomlin, Kevin Bridges, Blake and Dame Shirley Bassey will guest on Friday’s Graham Norton Show while following Wednesday’s X Factor UK at 9.00 will be Adele Live in London.

TV2’s HD movies include Tron: Legacy (1.00 Saturday), Clueless (7.00 Saturday), Burlesque (8.55 Saturday), Going the Distance (11.20 Saturday), The Longest Yard (8.30 Sunday) and Mother’s Day (11.55 Sunday).
