SoHo debuts Girls’ sixth and final season 8.30 tonight on a new night. Traditionally it’s aired Thursdays but SoHo’s switched it to Wednesday so it could air new drama Legion (8.30 Thursdays) within 24 hours of the US. From next week it will be teamed with the Pete Holmes comedy, Crashing, and from March 8 re-runs of Catastrophe will be succeeded by season-three episodes …
Girls opened to strong reviews in the US, where it averaged a 79 rating on Metacritic. The Hollywood Reporter said the first three episodes find Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner “working without a trace of complacency and with creative boundaries they obviously want to push. While the season-opening episodes contain periodic hints at the show’s mortality, there are still axes to grind and think pieces to be spawned here” …
After several summers of squeezing amazing ratings mileage out of SD re-runs of Sensing Murder, TVNZ 2 will launch the first season to be filmed in HD. Airing 8.30 Thursdays from March 2, it will be fronted by Amanda Billing (Shortland Street) and again feature psychics Deb Webber, Kelvin Cruickshank and Sue Nicholson investigating cold cases …
Sensing Murder will be double-billed with HD newcomer The Lie Detective. The Channel 4 series is named after “human lie detector” Dan Ribacoff, a New Yorker who, according to the publicity, “brings together current couples, exes, and hopeful singletons together to find out the truth about their relationships”. Digital Spy said given the premise, “the intense cringe factor should come as no surprise” …
Also returning on March 2 is Police Ten 7 (TVNZ 2, 7.30 Thursdays) while ending their runs that week will be Travel Guides, Major Crimes, Walliams & Friend and Kirstie And Phil’s Love It or List It …
