HD Heads-Up: June 1-6

➢➢ After weeks of using movies as programming fodder, TVNZ 2 overhauls Thursdays with The Fortune Hotel (8.30) and Dirty Home Rescue (9.40). The former is a Stephen Mangan-hosted cat-and-mouse game show set in a luxury resort; the latter goes inside some of the UK’s filthiest homes. The Guardian thought Fortune “a fiendishly addictive mix of The Traitors and White Lotus” and The Telegraph “an odd-couple wedding between The Traitors and Deal or No Deal“. The series opened with 1.5 million viewers but within a few weeks peaked with 2.6 million  …

➢➢ The Reunion (TVNZ 1, 10.35 Sunday) is a widely scorned ITV mystery about a school reunion that sparks one old boy (Ioan Gruffudd) to investigate the disappearance of his friend 25 years earlier. “Full of ludicrous plot twists and every single trope you’d expect from murder mystery hokum,” one critic said. “Until it turns unexpectedly gruesome and queasily retro about sexuality” …

  1. Hi Philip, do you know when The Traitors USA will be coming to ThreeNow or is it TVNZ+ bound?

  2. Hey, Leo. WBD NZ says: “No updates at this stage about us securing but will let you know if and when that may change.” Although Traitors US streams on Peacock in the US, I imagine WBD NZ would have first dibs because of its Traitors NZ deal. It did air Traitors UK on ThreeNow to underwhelming ratings. So if it did pass on Traitors US, I doubt TVNZ+ would be interested in picking up a show that promotes a rival’s franchise.

  3. Cheers Philip, thanks for getting back to me. Disappointed to hear that the UK version isn’t resonating here as it is by far the superior version. Hopefully interest will spike once the local version airs.
