➢ TVNZ 1 will screen the BBC’s live coverage of the Ariana Grande One Love Manchester concert in the early hours of Monday morning. It will air from 5.55am-9.30am. According to The Telegraph, “Some of the biggest names in music will assemble alongside the US pop star to help raise funds for the 22 victims and relatives of those who died in the Manchester Arena attack.” They include Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Coldplay, Miley Cyrus, Take That, Usher, Pharrell Williams and One Direction star Niall Horan …

➢ “Make America Bait Again!” — that’s the inspired tagline for Sharknado 5: Global Swarming, which will premiere in more than 100 markets in August (presumably including here on The Zone). Reports Deadline Hollywood: “In this latest iteration, the mission gets personal for Fin Shepard (Ian Ziering) and his bionic wife, April (Tara Reid), when their young son gets trapped in a traveling ‘nado and transported all over the world” …

➢ Netflix has axed Sense8 after two seasons. It follows the streaming service’s cancellation of The Get Down, Marco Polo and Bloodline. “After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end,” said Cindy Holland, VP of Netflix original content. “It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable” …

➢ Also doomed is SoHo’s Quarry, which America’s Cinemax has canned after only one season. “And so, after a protracted and agonising process, we have final confirmation that Quarry will not be returning to television,” co-creator Michael D Fuller said in a blog post. “There were several factors that contributed to the show’s ultimate fate, but a regime change at HBO and a re-(re?)-branding at Cinemax were of particular significance; we attempted to find another home for the show but were unable to do so” …

➢ Monday’s episode of American Gods on Amazon Prime Video “targets immigration on America’s southern border and finds Jesus Christ himself in the sights of those who want to keep others out,” Deadline Hollywood reports. “Our goal for the sequence was to try to experience a crossing over the border from the point of view of those desperate enough to do it, albeit through the show’s strange lens,” executive producer Michael Green says …

➢ Julia Roberts’ first TV series will be HBO’s Today Will Be Different, Variety says. “The hot project was first announced late last year and then shopped around in the new year to streaming and cable networks, before landing at HBO, which has put the drama into development as a limited series” …

➢ Next month SoHo will premiere two HBO movies: The Wizard of Lies (July 6) and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (July 13). The former dramatises the Bernie Madoff scandal and stars Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer; the latter stars Oprah Winfrey and documents the story of an African-American woman who was diagnosed with cervical cancer in the 1950s, and whose cancer cells (later known as HeLa) would change the course of cancer treatment …

➢ Lightbox has picked up Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, which it will stream from Thursday. An adaptation of the Margaret Atwood novel, it stars Elisabeth Moss and is set in a futuristic, totalitarian America where women are considered property of the state. The series earned a rare 100% approval critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 92% on Metacritic …

➢ Nashville resumes its fifth season on Monday, when it will continue to stream exclusively on Sky’s Neon. It will stream weekly from episode 12, which aired Thursday in the US. Given Sky has sole rights to the country music drama in this market, the least it could do for subscribers is to stream the series within 24 hours of the US …
