HD Heads-Up: June 22-28

➢➢ TVNZ 1 will test the appeal of lightweight American drama on its schedule with the premiere of a series about a quirky lawyer who first appeared in a show that ran for seven seasons on Three. Elsbeth (8.25 Tuesday) is named after Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston), who often clashed in the courtroom with The Good Wife’s Alicia Florick (Julianna Margulies). She also appeared in spin-off The Good Fight (which never aired here and streamed briefly only on Prime Video). For Elsbeth, the character has been relocated to New York and remoulded as a Columbo-style sleuth who fools the bad guys with her irksome eccentricities. ➢➢ Replacing NCIS is Alert! Missing Persons Unit (Three, 8.00 Tuesday), a procedural set in Philadelphia’s MPU where an ex-husband and wife work on dangerous cases while investigating the disappearance of their son. ➢➢ Murder In Boston: Roots, Rampage, and Reckoning (Sky Open, 9.30 Tuesday) is an HBO docuseries about how Boston authorities sparked racial tensions when they botched their investigation of the 1989 shooting of a white couple allegedly by an African-American. The Wall Street Journal dubbed it “a captivating crime story, a socio-political treatise and even evidence that life can get better … While some people will never admit race relations can ever improve, in Boston they seem to have done just that. Murder in Boston shows why they had to” …
