HD Heads-Up: March 28 – April 3

➢➢ Billy Connolly’s Great American Trail (TVNZ 1, 8.30 Thursdays from April 2): In this three-part series, Connolly follows the migratory trail of the Scots, from New York to Nashville. Observed the Sunday Times: “Celeb travelogues don’t usually moonlight as political statements, but this series is a celebration of America’s cultural diversity. Time prevents Connolly meeting all the 27m Americans who can claim Scottish ties, but he does showcase a fine cross- section. In Massachusetts, he meets Native Americans fluent in a language that was almost wiped out. He also visits the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, an LGBT group. His devotion to restoring one’s faith in human nature has always involved drawing attention to its dark side: that’s illustrated here by visits to Salem and Ellis Island” …

➢➢ Reads the blurb for Cristiano Ronaldo Meets Piers Morgan (Prime, 8.30 Saturday): “In his first ever sit-down interview, Cristiano Ronaldo – arguably the greatest footballer of all time – speaks about his humble upbringing, his rivalry with Messi, and his drive to be the best.” Reads The Telegraph review: “An overpaid, overexposed egomaniac who is far more loathed than he is loved. That description could apply equally well to either party … so the danger was this star interview could have been doubly insufferable. As it turned out, it was an engaging conversation full of surprises” …
