In the US, it was reviewed positively, earning a 98% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score based on 37 reviews. The Times likened it to “watching an episode of Porridge … Some inmates were almost too funny and camera-ready to be true. There are so many jail documentaries that prisoners have perhaps got wise and practise their persona for when a camera crew walks in. This was the most entertaining of its ilk I’ve seen in a while. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not” …
