HD Heads-Up: November 14 – 20

News of plans to film the fourth book in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo franchise coincides with Hollywood’s re-make of the original having its free-to-air HD premiere the same weekend as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

TV3 will screen David Fincher’s take on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo on November 14 at 9.00.

But according to The Hollywood Reporter, stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara won’t be returning for The Girl In the Spider Web.

It continued the publishing phenomenon after creator Steig Larsson’s death and is seen by Sony Pictures as a chance to reboot the screen franchise.

The same night another Sony property, Hannibal, ends its season two re-runs ahead of the third and final season’s late-night premiere on November 21.

TV2’s network movie premiere of the week is The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (8.30 Sunday), which will air four days ahead of the the final in the franchise, Mockingjay Part 2, opening theatrically.

Other coming attractions in HD include: Spy Kids: All the Time in the World (TV2, 7.00 Saturday), The Bounty Hunter (TV2, 8.45 Saturday), Analyse This (TV2, 10.45 Saturday), The Informant! (TV2, 1.05am Sunday), Cool Dog (TV2, 3.05am Sunday), Baggage Claim (TV3, 10.30 Sunday) and Final Destination 5 (TV2, 11.30 Sunday).

A raft of TVNZ staples will end their runs in the week starting November 14.

Exiting TV1 are Criminal Minds, Fair GoRachel Hunter’s Tour of BeautyThe DNA DetectivesAmazing Spaces: Shed of the Year and Kiwi Living.

Expect all but Criminal Minds to be replaced by stripped 7.30 episodes of MasterChef Australia.

TV2 farewells Police Ten 7 and Highway Patrol and premieres the You Tube clips special, Cats Make You Laugh Out Loud 2 (8.30 Monday).

The week’s only other notable HD newcomer is the TV1 documentary, The Women Of Pike River (9.30 Tuesday), which chronicles the fight for justice of the dead miners’ mothers, sisters and wives.

TV3 will screen live in HD the 2015 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards (8.30 Thursday) while 50 Cent and Elle Goulding will join Kate Winslet and Michael Fassbender on The Graham Norton Show (8.30 Friday).
