HD Heads-Up: November 3 – 9

➢➢ At last! TVNZ is fast-tracking a premium British drama to primetime rather than OnDemand. The Cry (8.30 Sundays from November 4) is a psychological thriller that chronicles how a marriage collapses in the wake of a tragedy. It stars Jenna Coleman (Victoria) and Ewen Leslie as a Scottish couple whose baby is abducted while visiting family in Australia. It went to air last month in the UK, where The Guardian hailed it as “a baby snatching drama to rival Bodyguard” while the Independent said it was the “deftly handled depiction of parenting that makes The Cry worth watching – not the dramatic abduction” …

➢➢ Also new that week will be the latest seasons of Border Security (TVNZ 1, 8.00 Mondays) and Elementary, which has been consigned to a late-night slot (Prime, 10.30 Tuesdays), and Great Rail Restorations (Prime, 7.30 Wednesdays), in which Peter Snow restores four of the most iconic carriages to their former glory …

➢➢ Guesting on the November 9 broadcast of The Graham Norton Show (Three, 9.00) will be Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, Melissa McCarthy, Emma Stone and Rick Astley …

➢➢ There will be two network movie premieres in the week starting November 3: The Magnificent Seven (Three, 8.40 Sunday) and A United Kingdom (Maori TV, 8.30 Sunday). Other HD coming attractions will include:

  • Police Academy (TVNZ 2, 7.00 Saturday)
  • Gone In Sixty Seconds  (TVNZ 2, 8.45 Saturday)
  • Searching For Sugar Man (Three, 9.35 Saturday)
  • Mortal Instruments (Duke, 9.35 Saturday)
  • Black Mass (TVNZ 2, 11.05 Saturday)
  • Falling Overnight (Three, 11.30 Saturday)
  • Two Night Stand (TVNZ 2, 1.15am Sunday)

  • Tales of Halloween (TVNZ 2, 12.30am Monday)

Nice one TVNZ, getting a quality drama straight to free to air! The Cry has had some good reviews in UK, so should be a good Sunday night watch.

  2. TVNZ had their new season launch this week, any post about it?

  3. Would love to have posted something at the time Leo but not being on the VIP list, I received only the standard press release on Wednesday night — which I didn’t see until Thursday morning and because of other commitments could only skim. Will look at posting an analysis next week.

  4. What?? You are not a VIP. This is an outrage!! Don’t they know who you are!! Come on TVNZ, get it together.

  5. Thanks, Leo, but my star has long since waned …
