HD Heads-Up: October 26 – November 1

➢➢ Courtroom drama All Rise will screen 9.30 Tuesdays on TVNZ 2 from October 29. The series has been streaming on TVNZ OnDemand since September 24 and is one of CBS TV’s most-watched newcomers. Variety reports while overnight ratings have been underwhelming this season, delayed viewing figures “present a very different story”, and cites how All Rise is helping to change the perceptions of how a TV show’s popularity should be measured: six million tuned into the premiere as it aired and 2.5 million watched it ahead of episode two. “Such increases are why networks are focusing more than ever on delayed viewing rather than night-of ratings,” Variety says …

➢➢ TVNZ 2 plans to give All Rise the strongest linear launch possible by preceding it with the final of My Restaurant Rules at 7.30 and The Secret Life of 4 Year Olds Australia at 8.30 (the latter will screen on Monday of that week as usual) …

➢➢ Your Home Made Perfect (TVNZ 1, 7.40 Sundays from October 7) is a new home makeover hour with a virtual reality twist. Says executive producer Joff Wilson of the format: “We created a first for British TV by using virtual reality technology and VFX to help transform homes, focusing on the best and most joyful part of the build – the big reveal” …

➢➢ Also new the week of October 26 will be the specials:

  • Michael McIntyre Live and Laughing (Duke, 8.30 Saturday);
  • Prisons Uncovered (Duke, 9.30 Wednesday), which “exposes from the inside” how UK prisons are out of control;
  • Spookers (Maori TV, 8.30 Monday), a movie-length documentary about a NZ family that runs the most successful scare park in the Southern Hemisphere; and,
  • Undertow (Maori TV, 9.30 Wednesday), which is dubbed a stage musical of the Treaty of Waitanig, independence, home ground, the land wars and of New Zealand’s place in the world …
