HD Heads-Up: September 20 UPDATED
➢➢ The networks are spring cleaning their schedules for the first week of October. Three will launch Married at First Sight NZ off the back of The Block NZ finale on September 30. It will continue 7.30 Monday, opposite TVNZ 2’s premiere of Project Runway NZ, and 7.30 Tuesday while anchoring a new 7.30 Wednesday slot will be the latest season of Grand Designs NZ. Three also will launch post-MAFS on Tuesday another local factual series, The Good Sh*t, which follows the progress of four overweight teenage girls who swallow capsules with other people’s faeces to try to shed the kilos …
➢➢ TVNZ 2 will maximise Project Runway NZ’s exposure with a same-week repeat (9.45 Friday), after a re-run of the Ghostbusters reboot, and with a TVNZ OnDemand behind-the-scenes stablemate: Models of Project Runway (from October 1) …
➢➢ The network also will try to stymie the appeal of Three’s The Block NZ/MAFS combo on the Sunday with hastily revised programming. It had scheduled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (7.30) and Aloha (9.20) for the night but has since pulled both movies for more competitive fare. Kiwi crowdpleaser Hunt for the Wilderpeople will now re-run at 8.30 while its 7.30 lead-in will be Too Posh to Parent, which investigates parental outsourcing, everything from etiquette training to professional toilet trainers ...
➢➢ Three also will pump up its schedule with new seasons of top-rating 9-1-1 (8.30 Mondays), which will air a week after its US broadcast, and Beach Cops (9.30 Mondays), which will be double-billed with season two repeats. It will also beef up Newshub Live at 6pm’s lead-in by stripping The Block Australia 4.30/5.00 weekdays while TVNZ 2 will move Renters into its 8.00 Thursday slot …
➢➢ TVNZ 1 will refresh its primetime line-up with three lightweight additions: Take Two, another bantering odd-couple private eye series from the Castle crowd (8.30 Monday); World’s Wildest Weather Caught On Camera (8.45 Tuesday), which predominantly will showcase Birtish holidaymakers and ex-pats’ cellphone footage; and Restaurant SOS (8.45 Wednesday), in which Alex Polizzi (The Hotel Inspector) and food critic Oliver Peyton will try to save restaurants from closure …
➢➢ Take Two earned middling reviews in the US, where TV Guide summed it up as “a light crime procedural that’s here to give you some pretty people to look at, some quips to chuckle at and a mystery to solve in a tidy 43 minutes. Nothing more, nothing less” …
➢➢ Maori TV newcomers for the week starting September 29 will include Jim: The James Foley Story, a documentary about the American journalist who was murdered by ISIS terrorists four years ago (8.30 Monday), and Intake, a series about basic NZ Army training (8.30 Tuesdays) …
➢➢ Family Guy will be expressed from the US starting October 1 (Duke, 8.30 Mondays) while ending their runs that week will be Animal Babies, Secret Life of the Holiday Resort, Deep State and Stitchers …
➢➢ Coming soon to TVNZ OnDemand: Aussie newcomer The Secret Life of Us, which follows the lives of eight people (from October 1); and new seasons of Criminal Minds (from October 4) and Station 19 (from October 5) …
➢➢ There will be two network movie premieres in the week starting September 29: Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (Three, 8.30 Sunday) and Julieta (Maori TV, 8.30 Sunday). Other HD coming attractions that week will include:
- Race to Witch Mountain (TVNZ 2, 7.00 Saturday)
- Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (TVNZ 2, 8.50)
- RoboCop 2 (Three, 8.55 Saturday)

Wow, TVNZ 2 is really going all out to try and counter programme Three’s hits. Fascinating about them pulling their first movies scheduled for that day. Also, the Murphy Brown reboot is listed on TVNZ OD as coming soon express from the US (same day turnaround 28 Sept). Wonder if they’ll give that TV placement too?
Fast tracking Family Guy and not Simpsons???????? I don’t understand.
Would you know if Murphy Brown will be shown by TVNZ 2 any time this 2018?
It will be available to stream on TVNZ OnDemand express from the US but I doubt it will make it to air this year on TVNZ 2.
Well, Philip, if Murphy Brown not TVNZ 2-worthy, will Will and Grace with David Schwimmer air on TVNZ 2 this 2018?
Looks like it. At this stage it’s pencilled in as the stablemate for new episodes of The Big Bang Theory on Wednesday nights.
Hi Patrick, I saw in another post on Screenscribe, Jacinda shares her appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert with Candice Bergen indicating a promotional push. Off to IMDb I go and they have the first episode (naturally called “Fake News”) on 27th September. Guessing if we get it ‘express from the US’ it’ll appear very quickly.
TVNZ OnDemand will stream Murphy Brown from September 28.
