Sky Movies Premiere: Hanna (Sky 20, 8.30, 5.1) Parentage-with-a-twist is at the heart of this hyper, hypnotic but hollow spy thriller that combines art house flair with edge-of-your-seat excitement. The Lovely Bones’ Saoirse Ronan plays an adolescent assassin raised in the wilderness by her rogue-spook father whose first assignment put her in the agency’s sights. Joe Wright (The Soloist, Atonement) directs a screenplay co-written by Spooks’ David Farr; Eric Bana, Cate Blanchett, Jason Flemying and Tom Hollander co-star. (2011) ✭✭✭✩
The Slap (TV3, 9.35) Whilst the court case is over, the repercussions of the slap are far from resolved for Aisha. Her marriage is buckling, and Rosie isn’t returning her calls. Said the Sydney Morning Herald: “This penultimate episode of the eight-part series continues in the quietly compelling style that’s already been established as it focuses on Aisha (Sophie Okonedo) and her husband, Hector (Jonathan LaPaglia), as they avoid the extended-family holiday in Greece and take their long-awaited, child-free escape to Bali. Issues of honesty and fidelity are to the fore as each grapples with the legacy of decisions they’ve made that could have a profound impact on their marriage.” ✭✭✭✭✩
❑ Cougar Town (TV2, 9.00, 5.1) Jules ends up asking both Ellie and Laurie to be her ‘co-maids’ of honour because she can’t stand to hurt anyone’s feelings. ✭✭✭✩
❑ Castle (TV One, 9.30, 5.1) When a bomb explodes at a protest rally killing five people, Castle and Beckett realise the key to solving the case is to reconstruct the 47 seconds before the explosion. ✭✭✭
