The Slap (TV3, 9.35, F) The series finale sees the burden of Connie’s secret taking its toll on Richie. He’s worried about her, and disgusted with himself for obsessing about Hector. Change the Channel hailed the conclusion as “a crackerjack hour of television” while The Guardian said “redemption of a kind came in the final instalment … I can’t say I ended up liking any of the characters, but there was much to admire in a script that set out to rip open the faultlines in everyone involved and continued to do so long after they had begged for mercy. The only stone left unturned was whether Rosie was going to stop breast-feeding the monster Hugo before he went to university.” ✭✭✭✭✩
❑ Castle (TV One, 9.30, 5.1) Castle and Beckett struggle to solve the murder of a British model. Brett Tucker (Neighbours, Spartacus: Blood and Sand) guest stars as an inspector who calls from Scotland Yard. ✭✭✭
Sky Movies Premiere: Johnny English Reborn (Sky 20, 8.30, 5.1) Adding to the authenticity of this surprisingly funny 007 spoof is ex-Bond babe Rosamund Pike (Die Another Day) as the hapless hero’s love interest and the shoddy back projection close-ups of his “stunts”. While the dialogue doesn’t aim as high as the production values, which masterfully mimic those of big-budget spy franchises, Rowan Atkinson’s antics amuse in any language. Gillian Anderson and Dominic West co-star. (2011) ✭✭✭✩
