SoHo Highlight: The Promise (Sky 10, 8.30, 5.1) Reading about the dramatic events in her grandfather’s diary, Erin is determined to resolve the mystery surrounding the fate of his charwallah friend Mohammed. This is part three of a four-part epic The New Statesman hailed as “a reflective and excruciatingly well-researched series that throws light on a segment of British wartime history that most Brits prefer to ignore – namely, our own involvement in the creation of the state of Israel and our complicity in the decades of bloody conflict that followed.” Metro agreed with The Times that initially The Promise sounded more like a “commitment” but “the powerful drama and believable writing of the first two episodes was encouraging. However, it now looks as though this is one promise that stands to be left unfulfilled, as tonight’s third episode disappointed on many levels. As the writing lost its substance, the characters looked more and more hollow and far less realistic than they had done previously .” ✭✭✭✭
