HD Homer Run for The Simpsons
Homer Simpson fans can look forward to The Simpsons springing forth in HD on TV3 the same week as the cartoon’s 20th season becomes the first to be released on Blu-ray.
The latest series starts 7.30pm Sunday, four days after The Simpsons Complete 20th Season landed on Blu-ray and DVD.
The Blu-ray combines both standard definition and HD episodes, as the first half of the season was still SD. The HD instalments have DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD audio options.
The two-disc set went on sale last week in the United States, just days after the launch of the 21st season and the 20th anniversary special, In 3-D! On Ice (which TV3 has yet to schedule).
Reviews of the latter ranged from, “Lively, fun and completely entertaining” (Newsday), to, “You don’t have to look it up in the Oxford English Dictionary to know this deserves a ‘d’oh’” (TV Guide).
The switch to HD coincided with a creative renaissance for Homer’s crowd. Yet it was from much earlier seasons that The Times of London culled its 10 best Simpsons episodes ever, which was topped by A Fish Called Selma.
