HD Ratings: Breaking Dad Beats Lego Lads
Lego Masters NZ crowned Glenn Knight and Jake Roos Aotearoaas its winners on Monday but the season final’s appeal was dented by a Christmas edition of Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad.
TVNZ 1 aired Breaking Dad from 7.00-8.00, half-an-hour ahead of Lego’s start and as the top-rating lead-in to another long weekend special, The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.
Breaking Dad averaged 4.8% of 25-54 year-olds, on the back of 1 News’ 10.0%, and 4.0% of 18-49s.
Lego, from 7.30-8.30, averaged 3.5%/2.9% of the core commercial demographics. The opening half-hour lost to Breaking Dad but over the hour easily topped Three’s MasterChef NZ (2.6%/1.7%).
Lego lead-out Down for Love ended its run with an unbeatable 25-54 average of 4.0% and 18-49 average of 3.5% vs 2.5%/1.7% for Three’s 9-1-1.
The Bee Gees special averaged 3.1%/2.7% in a dance-off with Three’s 9-1-1: Lone Star (1.7%/1.2%) and TVNZ 2’s Aroha Nui Say I Do (1.4%/1.2%).
TVNZ 1 won the night with 33% core demo shares while TVNZ 2 had a bigger 18-49 share than Three but a smaller 25-54 share.
Queen’s Birthday Sunday’s TVNZ 1’s Queens of Comedy double-bill featuring Betty White and Lucille Ball flopped against TVNZ 2’s Britain’s Got Talent and Fast Five movie.
BGT, which moves to Friday nights from June 17, scored its highest average yet on the channel (2.9%/2.4%), despite a low lead-in from the premiere of Eden: Untamed Planet (0.2%/0.3%).
Three’s MasterChef NZ see-sawed with BGT while its movie, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, was competitive with FF.
TVNZ 1 still won the night’s biggest key demo shares but the race was much closer among the three major networks.
Sky Sport’s Super Rugby Pacific coverage dented FTA weekend viewership but TVNZ 1’s Elizabeth: The Unseen Queen still averaged an impressive 2.7%/2.2% of the key demos one Saturday night.
Note: These overnight ratings exclude viewership of the networks’ +1 SD channels.
