HD Ratings: 2016 Claims First Scalp

TV2’s Home Free has become the first ratings casualty of 2016.

After only two nights on air, the network has pulled the series and will burn it off on TVNZ OnDemand.

A repeat of Dynamo: Magician Impossible will replace it on Monday and re-runs of Renters and Motorway Patrol on Tuesday.

This week’s Home Free premiere averaged only 1.7% – 3.2% of the core commercial demographics and 2.2% of viewers 5+.

Tuesday’s episode fared even worse, with 1.3% – 1.8% of the core demos and 1.9% of 5+.

TV3’s House Rules has proved more popular, averaging 3.2% – 6.0% on Wednesday, 4.0% – 4.7% on Tuesday and 3.9% – 6.3% on Monday.

In other rating news, TV2’s Red Riding Hood (3.6% – 4.3%) and TV3’s Paul (3.1% – 5.3%) were evenly matched on Monday while on Tuesday TV1’s UK reality hours largely out-rated TV2 and TV3’s movies.

TV1’s The Chase Australia dominated at 7.00 Monday-Tuesday as did all of its Wednesday line-up, with TV2’s re-run of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (3.9% – 5.6%) being competitive only in the household shoppers-with-kids demo.

That’s what happens TV2 when you try and undermine House Rules. They should of known Home Free wasn’t going to catch on. Thanks, Philip, for the ratings. I’m missing Throng’s daily ratings. Any thoughts on taking over the daily ratings or is there an added cost to do that?

  2. Thanks, Leo, but I don’t have the resources to emulate Throng’s ratings coverage. It had an arrangement with Freeview and was a full-time website whereas mine is a part-time endeavour without the reach to attract sponsors.

  3. Thanks for your reply Philip and fair enough. Keep up the good work you do on this site.
