HD Ratings: American Pie Reunion Apple of TV3’s Eye
My Kitchen Rules NZ helped TV One to dominate Sunday evening but TV3 won the post-9pm period with its network premiere of American Reunion.
MKRNZ averaged 7.7% – 11.0% of the major demographics to win in each and also topped viewers aged 5+ with 10.0%.
TV2’s HD comedies trailed by 2-5 ratings points, depending on the demo, and were more competitive with TV3’s X Factor Australia (6.6% – 8.1%).
MKRNZ’s appeal helped Call the Midwife to rate 4.0% – 6.5% and lead the 25-54 and household shoppers with kids demos, ahead of A Place to Call Home’s sturdy 2.0% – 5.1%.
But American Reunion pulled ahead with 5.8% – 8.6% and was most popular with 18-39 year-olds; TV2’s network premiere of One for the Money averaged 4.9% – 5.1%.
Week-on-week, TV2 took a huge hit in all the key demos while TV3 improved across the board and TV One was steady.
Sunday’s peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:
- A18-49: TV One, 6.8 rating/23.4 share; TV2, 4.9 rating/16.9 share; TV3, 6.6 rating/22.9 share
- A18-39: TV One, 6.7 rating/22.7 share; TV2, 4.6 rating/15.6 share; TV3, 7.2 rating/24.2 share
- A25-54: TV One, 7.9 rating/25.0 share; TV2, 4.9 rating/15.5 share; TV3, 7.0 rating/22.1 share
- HHS/k: TV One, 9.8 rating/28.8 share; TV2, 6.0 rating/16.6 share; TV3, 7.8 rating/22.7 share.
Saturday’s biggest HD drawcard was TV One’s Hyundai Country Calendar (4.7% – 8.2%), although TV3’s Ice Road Truckers (4.2% – 5.3%) is gaining traction and took the gloss of TV2’s movie Bride and Prejudice (3.7% – 4.7%).
TV One’s network HD premiere of Anonymous at 10.20 could muster only 0.3% – 0.6% against TV3’s re-run of Conviction (0.8% – 2.5%) off the back of Blue Bloods’ solid 1.0% – 4.5% (the police drama was most popular with adults 25-54 and HHS/k).
On Friday, TV2’s The Voice Kids Australia averaged 8.8% – 11.4%) against The Block NZ’s 6.9% – 9.7% but TV3’s HD comedy special Aotearoha Driving Stories steered away 4.9% – 6.0% to beat The Bounty Hunter (3.9% – 5.5%).
TV3’s delayed SD debut of The Michael McIntyre Chat Show also rated strongly: 5.3% – 7.5%.
On Thursday, TV2’s Resurrection bowed out with 5.2% – 6.7%, well shy of its initial ratings but still enough to largely win the 8.30 hour against TV3’s HD doco The Passenger Who Land a Plane (2.5% – 3.7%).
It was one of the most competitive Thursday nights in months, with TV One’s Vote 2014 Leaders Debate averaging 8.5% – 10.0% against TV2’s Shortland Street (13.0% – 20.8%) and Police Ten-7 (9.9% – 24.5%) and TV3’s The Block NZ (5.8% – 9.0%).
Restoration Man at 8.00 averaged 3.9% – 6.0% and lead-out Upper Middle Bogan 3.0% – 5.2% at the later hour of 9.00, ahead of The Kumars’ 1.1% – 2.5%.
TV3’s Botched Up Bodies at 9.40 bowed with 1.8% – 3.0% to see-saw with the competition.
TV One’s new-look Wednesday was a big hit, with MKRNZ averaging 6.7% – 7.4% ahead of the premiere of Benefits Street (7.9% -10.5%) and the doco Mummy’s Little Murderer (4.9% – 8.4%).
TV2’s return of Mike & Molly dominated the 7.30 hour with 7.6% – 13.0% while TV3’s The Block NZ averaged 6.0% – 10.5%.
