HD Ratings: Bourne’s Legacy Unbeatable

A re-run of a six-year-old Jason Bourne movie mostly out-rated the competition in the key demographics on Thursday.

Three’s Bourne Legacy averaged 4.5% of 25-54 year-olds and 3.8% of 18-49 year-olds.

It drew 2-3 times the 25-54 viewership of TVNZ 1’s The History of Comedy (2.0%) and Coronation Street (1.6%) while leading TVNZ 2’s First Dates Australia and I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! by more than two rating points.

But Three’s comedies Modern Family and 9JKL lost to TVNZ 1’s Karena & Kasey’s Kitchen Diplomacy and Topp Country — which finished well behind TVNZ 2’s Police Ten 7 (6.9%) and The Big Ward (5.8%).

The latter had the advantage of Shortland Street (9.3%) as their lead-in whereas Seven Sharp and The Project averaged 2.9% and 2.4% respectively.

Newshub Live also had another bad night, losing to One News in all the core commercial demos.

TVNZ 2’s decision to dump The X-Files for First Dates Australia appears justified given the improvement in ratings for 8.30 Thursdays: the last two weeks, FDA has averaged 3.4% of the network’s 18-49 target audience whereas the most recent episode of The X-Files averaged 2.3% (season 11 resumes March 2 at 11.10).

Thursday also was the second night in a row that TVNZ 2 won in all the major demos while TVNZ 1 edged out Three for second place in the 25-54 race.
