HD Ratings: A Legend in Its Own Primetime

Will Smith was the biggest person of interest to viewers on Tuesday night.

TV2’s HD re-run of his eight-year-old sci-fi hit I Am Legend won the ratings in all the key demographics, averaging 5.5% – 7.9%.

It was most popular with TV2’s 18-39 target audience and household shoppers with kids; with all viewers 5+, it rated 4.3%.

Only in this demo, which isn’t as important to advertisers as 18-39, 18-49, 25-54 and HHS/k, did TV1’s line-up dominate.

For instance, Person of Interest, which is struggling on its new night, won the 5+ race with 6.2% but averaged only 2.6% – 4.6% of the key demos.

Lead-out Fat Tony & Co also floundered, with 1.9% – 3.0% of the major demos compared to 3.2% of 5+.

But at least the Underbelly spin-off did improve on its woeful premiere the previous week.

TV3’s movie re-run, Sahara, averaged 4.2% – 4.9% on the back of The Block: Glasshouse’s 3.5% – 4.7%, which finished third after TV2’s Shortland Street (10.1% – 11.1%) and TV1’s MasterChef Australia (4.6% – 5.6%).

Never seen Sahara before, nice showing it in near original aspect ratio. Will Smith just keeps getting more awful with each movie.
