HD Ratings: A Week of It

TV3 went gunning for TV2’s Gotham on Sunday with Die Hard 4.0 but the Batman prequel survived to fly another day.

It won the 8.30 hour in all the key demos, averaging 7.4% – 9.7% off the back of Hotel Transylvania’s all-conquering 7.5% – 9.6%.

The Die Hard sequel drew 4.8% – 5.7% over nearly three hours and seesawed with TV2’s 9.30 drama Agents of SHIELD (4.8% – 7.4%).

It also faced tough competition from Sky’s NRL coverage (4.4% – 5.3%).

Earlier, My Kitchen Rules NZ (3.3% – 5.1%) and The X Factor Australia (4.3% – 5.3%) were competitive while TV One’s HD dramas finished third in their slots, with Call the Midwife averaging 3.5% – 5.2% and A Place to Call Home 2.5% – 3.7%.

TV One’s local shows also struggled on Saturday, with Annabel Langbein Free Range Cook: Through the Seasons averaging only 2.0% – 5.0%, to seesaw with TV2’s movie and TV3’s Destroyed in Seconds re-run, and Happy Hour sliding to 1.0% – 1.6% against TV2’s repeat of Gotham (3.6% – 4.3%) and TV3’s Blue Bloods (1.3% – 2.8%) – all of which were beaten by Four’s Beverly Hills Cop 2 (3.4% – 3.9%).

TV3’s The Block NZ (7.4% – 9.0%) challenged TV2’s The Voice (7.4% – 8.5%) on Friday while the return of 7 Days and Jono and Ben at Ten dented the appeal of The Forbidden Kingdom (4.4% – 5.4%) and crushed Last Tango in Halifax (0.7% – 2.4%).

TV2 dominated Thursday with its premiere of Wrath of the Titans (6.6% – 8.2%) but its Wednesday season premiere of Devious Maids (2.8% – 3.7%) struggled against TV One’s Don’t Look Down (2.8% – 4.6%) and TV3’s Gang Related (1.9% – 4.2%).

TV One’s Intrepid NZ (2.5% – 4.7%) also failed to fire in its debut off the back of MKRNZ’s 3.3% – 5.8% (vs 7.5% – 10.9% for The Block NZ).

TV2’s Amazing Race on Tuesday (6.0% – 9.0%) yo-yoed with TV3’s The Blacklist (5.9% – 9.2%) while The Mentalist (4.8% – 6.6%) was competitive in the 18-49 and 25-54 demos.

But TV3 dominated at 9.30 with Sons of Anarchy (4.1% – 7.2%) and scored highly with its Monday night re-run of Sione’s 2: Unfinished Business (5.9% – 6.7%), with only TV2’s Wentworth and Grey’s Anatomy beating it among household shoppers with kids.

  1. I’ve taken Gotham off my TiVo’s season pass. It’s starting to look a bit like “I’ve seen this before”.

  2. I know I’m off topic but YAY Twin Peaks is returning SO hope we get to see it in New Zealand 🙂

  3. New Twin Peaks in 2016 I heard on the radio today.

  4. Paul W: You have seen it before. Batman has been around since the 30s. There appears to have been a different perspective for each generation as with Superman. I’ve seen the 30s, 40s 60s[ tv] and lately the Bale and Keaton incarnations … but wait, there’s more: that well known B-man Affleck is about to swoop on us. Gotham has created an atmosphere where you get the feeling Batman is about to appear any minute. Try to enjoy the ride!

  5. It was great seeing it mentioned on 3 News, about the new series of Twin Peaks 🙂
