HD Ratings: Another Block-buster for TV3

Episode two of The Block NZ out-rated the penultimate episode of Mitre 10 Dream Home on Tuesday in the key demographics.

TV3’s DIY challenge averaged 10.4% – 14.5% compared to 9.3% – 14.0% for TV2’s.

Even with viewers 5+, The Block was more popular, although the traditional stronghold of this demo, TV One, won the hour with Coastwatch and Cause of Death: Unknown.

But in the 18-39, 18-49, 25-54 and household shopper demos, The Block was easily ahead.

Its popularity helped to boost Grand Designs Australia to within a few points of The Mentalist (6.8% – 11.2%) and actually out-rated it in TV2’s prime demo, adults 18-39.

But there was scant benefit to Chicago Fire, which prematurely ended its 9.30 run with 2.2% – 3.8% of key demos opposite Body of Proof’s 3.8% – 6.7%.

TV One’s season finale of First Crossings averaged a season low of 4.9% – 5.9% (it’s out today on DVD).

Hawaii Five-O, I hope, will do better.

  2. If The Block NZ rates tops, then there’s not much hope for the rest of FTA TV in NZ.

  3. Yep, more cheap reality on the way, as this is TV3’s new strategy!!
