HD Ratings: Bake Off Hotter Than Runway

Timaru teenager Annabel Coulter, who was judged NZ’s best home baker in Tuesday’s Great Kiwi Bake Off.

The Great Kiwi Bake Off bowed out to higher ratings than the season finale of Project Runway NZ.

Bake Off easily won its extended Tuesday slot, averaging 4.8% of TVNZ 2’s target audience, 18-49 year-olds, 5.8% of 25-54s, 4.2% of 18-39s and 6.4% of household shoppers with kids.

By comparison, Monday’s Project Runway averaged 3.2% of 18-49s, 4.2% of 25-54s, 3.3% of 18-39s and 6.2% of HHS/k.

Bake Off started an hour earlier earlier and ran for 90 minutes but Runway had the advantage of a much stronger lead-in, the season finale of Shortland Street, which averaged 7.8% – 13.4% of the core commercial demographics.

Whereas Bake Off won every quarter-hour segment in the key demos, Runway seesawed with the competition on TVNZ 1 and Three.

TVNZ 2 has confirmed there will be another season of Runway and already is inviting home bakers to participate in next year’s Bake Off.

Runway’s lead-out The Undateables proved unassailable at 9.30, with averages of  2.4% – 5.0%, while Three’s re-run of the movie Sisters out-rated TVNZ 1’s line-up except in the 25-54 demo.

TVNZ 2 dominated Tuesday with Bake Off and the movie Joyful Noise in all the core demos except 25-54, where the first half of the movie lost to 1’s re-run of Eat Well for Less.

TVNZ 2 also largely ruled on Saturday and Sunday with its movies, although Three’s Saturday combo of Coca Cola Christmas in the Park and Big was a big hit with HHS/k.

The season finale of Doctor Who on Friday lost to The X Factor UK and The Graham Norton Show in all the core demos while 7 Days ended the year in winning form with averages of 2.9% – 4.9%.

Not surprized that Project Runway rated low. My wife who has watched Project Runway since reason 3 in the US and all the other spin-offs was looking forward to the NZ version but gave up after ep 3.
