HD Ratings: Bake Off the Right Recipe

The Great Kiwi Bake Off continues to hit the sweet spot for TVNZ 1’s 25-54 audience, easily winning its Thursday night slot with a 3.2% average.

It didn’t fare as well with the other core commercial demographic, 18-49 year-olds (2.0%), but still out-rated Three’s Comedy Month special, The Comedy Mixtape With Pax Assadi.

Mixtape averaged 2.1% of 25-54s and 1.5% of 18-49s vs 2.7%/2.6% for TVNZ 2’s Ten 7 Aotearoa and 2.1%/2.0% for its lead-out Motorway Patrol.

TVNZ 2’s Embarrassing Bodies (2.4%/1.7%) and SEAL Team (0.9%/0.6%) also topped Three’s Mean Mums (1.0%/0.6%), The Stand Up Sketch Show (0.3%/0.1%) and Get the Name Right (0.4%/0.1%).

But all were beaten by TVNZ 1’s Hard Quiz (2.7%/2.1%) and Coronation Street (0.9%/0.6%) — although the latter couldn’t match Bravo’s A&E After Dark in the 18-49 demo.

Prime’s The Black Ferns: Wahine Toa could muster only 0.2% of each key demo and lead-out Bull 0.1%/0.0%.

Duke’s Outback Car Hunters revved up 1.8%/1.6% and Secrets of the Supercars 0.8%/0.6%.

TVNZ 1 won the night with 31+ shares of the core demos. TVNZ 2 narrowly led Three in the 18-49 race but trailed in the 25-54 stakes.

Note: These overnight ratings exclude viewership of the networks’ +1 SD channels.

  1. I see a lot of content is leaving TVNZ+, is this just shows reaching the end of their licenses on TVNZ+ or a clearing of the house before the merger next year, Philip? If TVNZ’s catalogue of content is hollowed who will fill this void, ThreeNow or Prime’s Ondemand section on Sky Go?

  2. Looks to me as if it’s just expiring licenses, Leo. Shows turn over all the time. Some series end up being licensed more than once, such as Wolf Hall. Regardless of the final shape of the merger, TVNZ will continue to invest more in on-demand content as it overhauls the platform to compete more effectively.

  3. So that explains it. I was trying to get my head around what was happening and thought something else was behind this. Cheers for clearing this up.
