HD Ratings: Battleship Unsinkable

TVNZ 2’s Battleship ruled the free-to-air waves on Sunday night, outgunning Three’s Once Upon Time in Hollywood and TVNZ 1’s The Larkins and The Bay in the core commercial demographics.

It averaged 2.3% of 25-54 year-olds and 1.7% of 18-49s vs 3.2%/2.2% for The Larkins, 1.1%/0.9% for The Bay and 1.3%/0.9% for Hollywood.

Where Battleship and Larkins battled head-on, the race was very tight in both demos. The movie’s lead over Hollywood was far wider.

Earlier, TVNZ 1 dominated with The Chase, 1 News at Six and Hyundai Country Calendar while Sunday gave up its lead to TVNZ 2’s My Kitchen Rules from 8.00.

Three’s Australian Ninja Warrior had the edge on MKR for the first hour but then the latter led. Overall MKR averaged 3.4% of 25-54s and 2.4% of 18-49s vs 3.2%/2.4% for ANW.

On the smaller HD channels. Eden’s movie Fisherman’s Friends averaged 0.6%/0.3%, Prime’s When Big Things Go Wrong 0.7%/0.4%, Duke’s Swamp People: Serpent Invasion 0.8%/0.7% and Whakaata Māori’s The King of Comedy 0.0%.

On Saturday, TVNZ 1’s Lingo led from 7.00-8.00 and TVNZ 2’s movie PItch Perfect 2 from 8.00-9.00.

RWC preemptions over the past few weeks did Three’s Wild Heroes no favours with Saturday’s ep averaging just 1.0% of 25-54s and 0.8% of 18-49s while the return of Crikey! It’s the Irwins netted 0.5% of each core demo.

Hotel Transylvania opened Prime’s new 7.00 movie slot with 0.7%/0.6% and Eden’s 8.30 movie Homefront (0.7%/0.5%) out-rated Three’s Juliet, Naked (0.4%/0.1%).

Despite having to upend its Friday schedule because of rain washing out T20 coverage, TVNZ 1’s patchwork of The Repair Shop, Travel Man and Brokenwood Mysteries led with 18-49s — although 25-54s abandoned it post-Repair Shop for TVNZ 2’s The Voice Australia and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

On Thursday TVNZ 1’s Cooks on Fire (3.5%/2.4%) won the 7.30 hour and Three’s The Graham Norton Show (2.2%/1.7%) the 8.30 hour.

Prime’s premiere of Waharoa: Art of the Pacific averaged 0.0% of each demo while its lead-out, newcomer Brave New Zealand World, fared only marginally better (0.1%/0.0%).

Note: These overnight ratings exclude viewership of the networks’ +1 SD channels.

WOW, Bob Iger is back as CEO for Disney. What a shock but a pleasant one ?

  2. On Xbox game pass there is a perk for 3 months of free Apple TV+ so I decided to get it ?

  3. Enjoy, Trevor. What Apple TV+ lacks in content it makes up for in quality. The likes of Slow Horses, The Old Man and Tehran are excellent, and the streaming quality is excellent.
