HD Ratings: Big Boys Beat Little Boys

Tuesday’s network movie premiere of Two Little Boys was thrashed by a re-run of Grown Ups.

TV3’s Kiwi black comedy averaged only 1.9% – 2.2% of the major demographics compared to 6.2% – 8.7% for TV2’s Adam Sandler comedy.

The latter started half-an-hour earlier on the back of Home and Away averaging 6.2% – 10.3% in a movie-length 7pm swan song that easily won its slot opposite The Block: Glasshouse (2.7% – 4.1%) and MasterChef Australia (2.1% – 4.0%).

Another headache for TV1 was The Mentalist ending its season with a 2.6% – 4.4% low.

Two of the network’s other crime staples also proved anticlimactic in the ratings on Monday.

The season finale of Criminal Minds averaged 2.6% – 6.5% and Castle 1.5% – 4.0% opposite TV2’s movie Just Go With It (6.3% – 8.7%) and TV3’s The Day After (4.7% – 5.3%).

TV1’s new hi-tech half-hour, Gadget Man, launched to 3.4% – 5.7% against Home and Away (6.5% – 8.2%) and Glasshouse (4.2% – 6.0%).

TV2’s Sunday network movie premiere of Arthur Christmas (7.3% – 11.1%) slayed TV3’s Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel (3.0% – 3.5%) while TV1’s re-run of Kiwi comedy Love Birds (3.9% – 5.5%) largely won its slot opposite TV2’s Bad Santa and TV3’s crime dramas.

TV1 also is getting good results from its re-run of Galapagos, with Sunday’s episode averaging 5.3% – 8.0%.

On Saturday, Herbie Fully Loaded (5.3% – 5.8%) steered TV2 to success in the evening but TV3’s Man on Fire (2.9% – 5.5%) lit up post-8.30.

On Friday, part two of TV2’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was no match for part one earlier in the week, averaging only 4.0% – 6.2% and winning its slot outright only in the 18-39 demo.

But National Treasure proved to be a rating gem on Thursday for TV2, largely beating the competition with a 6.2% – 9.3% average, as did the network’s Wednesday movie, A Christmas Carol (6.6% – 9.2%).
