HD Ratings: Billy T Gets Last Laugh

The HD premiere of Billy T: Te Movie helped TV3 to win the Sunday night ratings with its target audience, adults 25-54.

The movie averaged 6.1% of this demographic, 5.2% of adults 18-39 and 18-49, and 7.0% of household shoppers with kids.

But the most popular movie of the night was TV2’s network HD premiere of Toy Story 3, which averaged 6.4% – 8.1% of the key demos.

TV One’s Vera averaged 1.6% – 3.5% on the back of Australia’s Got Talent’s 5.3% – 7.4%.

Another HD movie, TV2’s re-run of 2012, dominated Saturday night, with a 5.8% – 7.5% average, while TV3’s HD re-run of The Green Mile locked up a solid 4.4% – 5.3% opposite TV One’s Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries (1.2% – 3.7%) and With Strings Attached (0.6% – 1.7%).

2012’s popularity helped the late-night HD premiere of box office bomb Jonah Hex to rate surprisingly well, with a 3.6% – 5.6% average.

On Friday, TV2’s HD re-runs of The Middle (3.8% – 5.8%) and The Big Bang Theory (3.6% – 6.1%) out-rated TV3’s The Block: All Stars (3.2% – 4.1%).

But Block lead-out Beauty and the Geek Australia largely won the 8.30 hour, with a 3.6% – 5.1% average.

But among adults 25-54, the second hour of Coronation Street in its new two-hour slot was tops, with 4.8%.

In other ratings news for the week ending January 5:

  • Sex and the City 2’s HD broadcast averaged 3.7% – 3.8% of the key demos to win Thursday night post-8.30;
  • TV2’s HD re-runs of Journey to the Centre of the Earth and National Treasure dominated Wednesday night;
  • The Block: All Stars largely won the 7.30 hour on Tuesday and Thursday, and was competitive the rest of the week.
