HD Ratings: Clue Has Clout

Despite terrible reviews, TVNZ 1’s Give Us a Clue topped the 25-54 ratings last night and split the 18-49 audience.

It averaged 4.6% of the network’s target demographic, to beat both TVNZ 2’s MasterChef Australia (4.0%) and Three’s The Block NZ (3.6%).

In the 18-49 race, Clue and Block each averaged 3.1%, and MasterChef 2.8%.

Clue’s ratings were solid rather than fantastic but the viewership in each demo held from start to finish, which is a plus for any programme — especially one that earned advance reviews like Stuff’s: “You’ll be left wondering what on earth the state broadcaster was thinking in commissioning this chaotic muddle … a forgettable farrago of a format best left in the past.”

Clue also kept much of its lead-in from Seven Sharp — which is more than can be said for lead-out Love It or List It.

The property show averaged just 2.5% of 25-54s and 1.7% of 18-49s against TVNZ 2’s time slot-winning Taskmaster NZ (3.6% / 3.2%) and Three’s LA’s Finest (1.7% / 1.4%).

TVNZ 2 also won the 9.30 hour in the core commercial demos, with Would I Lie to You? averaging 1.8% / 1.5% vs 1.5% / 0.8% for TVNZ 1’s Coronation Street and 1.2% / 0.7% for Three’s Hawaii Five-O.

Earlier, Seven Sharp beat TVNZ 2’s Shortland Street in the 25-54 demo but the latter carried 18-49s.

TVNZ 1 comfortably won the night’s biggest key demo shares while TVNZ 2 was a couple of points ahead of Three.

Those people surely must be regretting it. They need their own clues ?

  2. Yes, too clueless to realise regret ?

  3. Great to see this show back, the premiere was pretty enjoyable. At least one of the scathing pre-reviews was purely motivated by the author’s personal distaste of the political career of host Paula Bennett than of the show itself.

  4. They didn’t hire Paula for her TV hosting experience, so are TVNZ just trolling the lefties who will hate watch?
