HD Ratings: Clue Renewal No Brainer
TVNZ 1’s Give Us a Clue ended its Wednesday night run nigh on a season high, averaging 5.3% of 25-54 year-olds and 4.2% of 18-49s.
Chances are had it not been facing off against TVNZ 2 juggernaut Celebrity Treasure Island, the season finale would have rivalled the 7.4% / 6.4% averages of a month ago.
Despite hostile reviews, the celebrity charades series has been a bonafide hit, winning its slot every week bar the last two opposite CTI.
The show’s success means it’s a shoo-in for renewal and even could lead to TVNZ 1 mounting strategic spin-off specials, as UK game shows The Chase and Tipping Point and newcomer Weakest Link Australia do.
Give Us a Clue has been a hit in a tough slot, with 7.30 Wednesdays one of the week’s most competitive.
Last week CTI averaged 6.1% / 4.9% and Three’s Bay Patrol 4.8% / 4.0% and Bondi Rescue 4.3% / 3.5%.
But Clue set up Kirstie & Phil’s Love It Or List to win the 8.30 hour in the 25-54 demo (4.3% vs 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown’s 3.3% and LA’s Finest’s 1.5%) and Coronation Street the 9.30 hour.
CTI also won its Tuesday slot (5.9% of 25-54s vs 3.6% for TVNZ 1’s Eat Well for Less? and 3.9% for Three’s Lego Masters).
TVNZ 1’s Paramedics carried the 8.30 hour with 4.1% of 25-54s but TVNZ 2’s Wentworth won it in the 18-49 demo with 3.6%.
Coronation Street won both core commercial demos an hour later.
Note: These overnight ratings exclude viewership of the networks’ +1 SD channels.
