HD Ratings: Crowning Glory for DWTS

Dancing With the Stars NZ won its grand final slot on Sunday in all the core commercial demographics despite fierce competition from the TVNZ channels.

TVNZ 1 aired a headline-making Sunday profile of Wairarapa farmer James Cameron while TVNZ’s My Kitchen Rules has been consistently out-rating DWTS of late.

But DWTS’ two-hour swansong was untouchable. It averaged a massive 9.5% of Three’s target audience, or 180,400 25-54 year-olds, 8.2% of 18-49s, 6.2% of 18-39s and 11.8% of household shoppers with kids.

MediaWorks reports DWTS recorded an average 25-54 share of 25.8% and 148,300 viewers per episode during its run on Three and Three +1, reaching an overall audience of 916,200 people.

And it was the #1 show on ThreeNow until Love Island UK took over the top spot.

Even TVNZ 1 warhorse Hyundai Country Calendar had to take a back seat on Sunday, averaging 7.6% of 25-54s compared to 9.1% the previous week.

And despite its Hollywood star power, Sunday averaged 4.8% of this demo versus 6.6% the previous week.

Cold Case also took a hit, down 2.2 rating points from its season premiere to 3.5% — but lead-out Catch-22 improved, jumping from 1.7% to 2.2% week on week.

MKR fell from 7.0% of 25-54s to 5.5%, and from 5.8% of 18-49s to 4.3%.

But lead-out Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ruled from 9.00, averaging 5.9% of 25-54s and 4.9% of 18-49s, more than doubling viewership of Three’s Going in Style in these demos.

However, Three still easily won the night in style in all the key demos.
