HD Ratings: Desserts Just What TV3 Ordered
It may have flamed out in Australia but Zumbo’s Just Desserts, which continues tonight at 7.30, has curried favour with TV3’s target audience, 25-54 year-olds.
Monday’s episode averaged 4.0% to beat TVNZ 1’s reality re-runs and TVNZ 2’s Christmas Makes You Laugh Out Loud.
Last Tuesday’s episode rated even higher — 4.5% — to average more viewers than TVNZ 1’s Amazing Spaces: Shed of the Year (3.9%) and TVNZ 2’s The Middle (3.3%) and The Real O’Neals (2.3%).
Zumbo’s popularity helped lead-out Special Victims Unit (3.8%) to beat TVNZ 1’s The Job Interview (3.3%) and TVNZ 2’s This Is Us (1.9%).
Zumbo has largely won with 25-54s since its debut and has also been popular enough with other core demos, including 18-39s, 18-49s and household shoppers with kids, to often win with them, too.
Meanwhile, TV2 will be hoping for a resurgence of interest in tonight’s mid-season finale of This Is Us, after last week’s episode sunk to a season low, averaging only 1.8% of its target audience, 18-49s.
And Prime will be banking on newcomer Tutankhamun having more appeal than time slot predecessor Poldark, which last week bowed out with only 0.5% of 25-54s.

I am truly shocked that This is Us has fallen to such a low. I am in love with this amazing show. I wrote this show off before I watched it and agree it is one of the best new shows of the new season. We can’t let this show be dumped to late night. Come on people tune in!! So good on so many levels.
Hi Philip, I have checked the latest TVNZ ratecard and it appears that This is Us has been dumped to Saturday afternoons in the new year after it’s mid-season break. Are you able to confirm please?
Thanks, Leo. Will look into it. I imagine the Saturday afternoon broadcasts will be repeats, as they kick off with double-eps the same week the show resumes in the US (January 10). It would be bizarre for TVNZ 2 to dump This Is Us off-peak mid-run rather than persevere with it in a later slot. And at this stage it looks as if the series will resume 8.30 Tuesdays from January 31. As always, however, the rate cards are subject to abrupt changes.
TVNZ 2’s confirmed the Saturday broadcasts will be repeats.
Hi Philip, thanks for the info. I am relieved that This is Us will remain in primetime. Once again, cheers for always answering our viewer questions.
Only too happy to help. And I appreciate you being sharp-eyed enough to pick up on things that I miss. Cheers!
