HD Ratings: Dinosaurs Overrun Racist

That’s a Bit Racist made an underwhelming debut on Sunday, averaging just 3.9% of TVNZ 1’s key commercial demographic, 25-54 year-olds.

It opened with 4.9% off the back of Sunday but closed with 3.0% as most 25-54s switched over to the movies on TVNZ 2 and Three.

In the other key demos, it averaged just 1.7% – 3.3%.

Three’s Jurassic World won the showdown of the big screen dinosaurs, topping the Nicholas Cage vehicle, National Treasure: Book of Secretsin every core demo except 18-39 (where the latter won by one-tenth of a rating point).

The Jurassic Park sequel and blockbuster ratings for The Block NZ: Firehouse helped Three to win the night’s biggest key demo shares.

Even so, TVNZ 1’s Hyundai Country Calendar won its slot in all the major demos except 18-39, with averages of 6.3% – 9.3%.

TBNZ averaged roughly twice as many viewers as rival My Kitchen Rules except among household shoppers with kids, where 2.2 points separated them.

Among the free-to-air networks, TVNZ won the lion’s share of 25-54s on Saturday night but TVNZ 2 dominated the rest.

TVNZ 1 newcomers Extreme Chocolate Makers opened solidly, with 4.7% of 25-54s, but lead-out The World’s Best dropped to 3.1% and the return of Anika Moa Unleashed mustered only 1.8%.

TVNZ 2’s Puss in Boots was a hit while Three’s Hook sunk rapidly, straitjacketing Hot Fuzz’s chances against the all conquering The Expendables 3.

On Friday’s Three’s Graham Norton Show won the 8.00 hour in all the core demos except HHS/k but TVNZ 2’s 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown won the following hour.

TVNZ 1’s A Place to Call Home returned with a competitive 25-54 average of 3.3% off the back of The World’s Best’s 4.5%.

TVNZ 1 won the night with 25-54s and HHS/k while TVNZ dominated with 18-49s and 18-39s.

    Good to see That’s a Bit Racist bombed for TVNZ. It was a dreadfully biased and misleading piece of loaded programming.
