HD Ratings: Doggone Good Bow (Wow) for Barkley Manor

Monday’s premiere of doggy daycare show Barkley Manor rounded up enough viewers to out-run Australian Ninja Warrior but not Celebrity Treasure Island.

The TVNZ 1 newcomer improved sharply on the previous week’s season finale of Border Patrol in the 18-49 demographic but was “ruff”-ly the same with 25-54 year-olds.

It averaged 4.0% of 25-54s and 3.3% of 18-49s vs 6.5% / 5.1% for TVNZ 2’s CTI and 3.5% / 3.0% for Three’s ANW.

However, the 90-minute broadcast of ANW did win its last half-hour against TVNZ 1’s My Life is Murder, which averaged 3.1% / 2.3% for the 8.30 hour, and the final of TVNZ 2’s Spice Girls: How Girl Power Changed the World (3.3% / 2.7%).

ANW stablemate Sydney Harbour Force dominated the 9.00 hour, with core demo averages of 2.1% / 1.7% vs 20/20’s 1.5% / 1.2% and 0.8% / 0.7% for TVNZ 2’s comedy bomb Girls5eva.

That set up Newshub Late to win its slot.

Earlier, TVNZ 1 led with The Chase, 1 News at Six and Seven Sharp in the 25-54 demo but a resurgent Shortland Street stopped a clean 18-49 sweep, averaging 5.1% vs 7S’s 4.4%.

TVNZ 1 won the night’s biggest key demo shares, with TVNZ 2 the runner-up.

In the weekend ratings race, Three’s Super Saturday Vaxation broadcast out-rated TVNZ 2’s from midday-6pm in both key commercial demos.

They opened neck-and-neck but then Three led for the rest of the afternoon.

However, TVNZ 2 dominated primetime with movies Moana and Vacation.

But Three’s Sunday movie premiere of Gemini Man, off the tail end of ANW’s premiere and coupled with LA’s Finest, saw the network dominate both major demos from around 8.00-midnight — although TVNZ 1’s early evening grip meant it still won the night’s biggest shares.

On Friday, TVNZ 1 led with The Repair Shop and The Great British Sewing Bee, although TVNZ 2’s I Can See Your Voice was competitive with the former in the 18-49 demo while Three’s Love at First Sight UK was a distant third.

Note: These overnight ratings exclude viewership of the networks’ +1 SD channels.
