HD Ratings: Dynamic Departure for Dramatic Duo

TV3’s NCIS combo bowed out strongly on Tuesday, bouncing back from its lows of previous weeks.

Neither won its slot outright but out-rated TV One’s Britain’s Got Talent across all the major demographics and proved competitive with TV2’s comedies and Revenge.

NCIS averaged 4.9% – 9.5% of the key demos and NCIS: Los Angeles, 3.6% – 8.1%.

The first hour of Talent averaged 4.2% – 5.3% and the second, 3.0% – 3.6%.

Both crime shows were largely beaten by TV2’s Mom (9.3% – 10.6%) and Two and a Half Men (5.8% – 6.8%) but had the edge among household shoppers with kids and 25-54 year-olds while NCIS: LA was 2-3 times as popular as Revenge (2.1% – 2.4%).

Shortland Street (14.4% – 20.2%) and My Kitchen Rules (15.2% – 18.9%) dominated the rest of the night.

But TV One won the 7.30 hour against TV3, with Highway Cops averaging 5.6% – 8.2% and Water Patrol 6.4% – 9.6% against Grand Designs Australia’s 4.0% – 7.2%.

Week-on-week, TV3’s primetime ratings and shares were up sharply, TV One’s were down and TV2’s steady.

Tuesday’s peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:

  • A18-49: TV One, 5.7 rating/19.0 share; TV2, 9.7 rating/32.4 share; TV3, 5.0 rating/16.9 share
  • A18-39: TV One, 4.8 rating/15.7 share; TV2, 10.8 rating/35.1 share; TV3, 5.2 rating/16.8 share
  • A25-54: TV One, 7.0 rating/21.7 share; TV2, 9.4 rating/29.1 share; TV3, 6.0 rating/18.5 share
  • HHS/k: TV One, 6.7 rating/18.3 share; TV2, 11.9rating/32.5 share; TV3, 8.6 rating/23.4 share.

On Monday, Shortland Street and MKR again ruled, as did TV2’s comedy Trophy Wife (5.8% – 8.9%) but the second half of TV2’s SD re-run of Death Race won the second hour opposite Grey’s Anatomy (4.2% – 4.9%) and TV One’s Intelligence (1.2% – 4.5%).

At 8.30, TV One’s Person of Interest (3.3% – 5.8%) also finished third.

The network’s 8.30 Sunday crime drama Broadchurch (4.9% – 7.6%) topped TV3’s season finale of The Blacklist (4.2% – 6.3%).

But both were overshadowed by a resurgent Agents of SHIELD (5.2% – 8.3%), which lost to Broadchurch only in the 25-54 demo.

SHIELD lead-out The Tomorrow People averaged 2.2% – 6.5% against Breathless’ 1.7% – 2.8% and Hawaii Five-O’s 3.4% – 3.9%, which won the 9.30 hour in all the key demos except HHS/k.

Earlier, The Voice Australia (6.7% – 11.6%) lost to House Rules (7.6% – 12.9%).

Saturday’s free-to-air HD ratings were dwarfed by Sky’s live All Blacks-vs-England coverage (7.3% – 10.3%), with the movies Princess Dairies 2 averaging 5.3% – 6.1% and Love & Other Drugs 1.7% – 1.9%.

On Friday, The Voice Australia (9.2% – 13.1%) was twice as popular as House Rules (5.1% – 7.5%) but the first half of TV2’s movie premiere, John Carter (4.5% – 7.6%), was out-rated by The Graham Norton Show (8.8% – 9.6%) and its Kiwi comedy stablemates.

On Thursday, TV2’s Arrow (5.3% – 8.5%) rated well ahead of TV One’s Agent Anna (3.9% – 5.9%) and TV3’s re-run of CSI (3.2% – 5.6%) while the network’s Wednesday juggernaut of Shortland Street, MKR, The Big Bang Theory, 2 Broke Girls and Once Upon a Time reigned supreme.
