HD Ratings: Eve Not Everyone’s Favourite

Killing Eve may have been the darling of the BAFTA TV Awards but continues to rate poorly on TVNZ 2.

This week it won three BAFTAs for best drama series, actress (Jolie Comer) and supporting actress (Fiona Shaw).

But the same day, in its 9.30 Monday slot, it averaged only 1.0% of 18-49 year-olds, TVNZ 2’s target audience, versus 3.0% for Three’s ageing procedural Special Victims Unit, 0.8% for TVNZ 1’s niche current affairs hour Q + A and 0.7% for Prime’s Game of Thrones.

The 25-54 viewership was higher, with a 1.3% average, but still well behind SVU (3.2%) and barely ahead of the rest of the competition.

This was despite TVNZ 2 dominating the early evening, with Shortland Street averaging 5.7% – 11.1% of the core commercial demographics, and My Kitchen Rules,  4.4% – 9.9%.

The latter comfortably topped Three’s Dancing With the Stars (3.6% – 6.8%) but lead-out Mom couldn’t maintain the momentum, averaging only 3.5% of 25-54s and 2.5% of 18-49s.

MKR viewers switched over to Three’s The Rookie, which averaged 4.3% of 25-54s and 3.6% of 18-49s, and won the 8.30 hour in the other key demos, too, setting up SVU for its clean demo sweep.

Rookie’s rival in crime, TVNZ 1’s Criminal Minds, appears ready for late-night demotion, averaging only 2.3% of 25-54s and 1.5% of 18-49s.

However, its prospects were hindered by MKR and DWTS crushing lead-ins Fair Go and Driving Test.

But TVNZ 1 dwarfed Three from 6.00-7.30, when 1 News won every key demo except 18-39 and Seven Sharp trounced The Project across the board.

As a result, TVNZ 1 wound up with the biggest shares of 25-54s and household shoppers for the night while TVNZ 2 and Three led respectively in the 18-39 and 18-49 demos.
