HD Ratings: FBoy Island Flops

Despite all the controversial headlines preceding its launch, Wednesday’s premiere of FBoy Island NZ was a damp squib.

Indeed, it turned out to be a shocker for all the wrong reasons.

TVNZ 2’s raunchy reality show averaged just 0.3% of 25-54 year-olds and 0.2% of 18-49s, the two key demographics that matter most to commercial broadcasters.

Granted, it was a grim night for the networks, with none of the 9.30 shows topping 1.0% of the core demos.

But FBoy Island still rated lower than TVNZ 1’s Coronation Street (0.8%/0.7%) and Three’s Sort Your Life Out (UK) (1.0%/0.6%).

It also trailed Bravo’s 911 Crisis Centre (0.8% of each key demo) and Snapped (0.6%/0.4%).

The previous week in the same slot, TVNZ 2’s Live at the Apollo averaged 1.1%/0.6% — and that was off a lower lead-in from Taskmaster (UK) than this week’s episode, which averaged 1.5%/1.4%.

TVNZ 1’s viewership also was down while Three’s line-up steamed ahead, with Nadia’s Farm averaging 3.4%/2.1% at 7.30 and the 8.30 re-run of David Lomas Investigates 3.1%/2.1%.

Three will be especially pleased with Nadia’s Farm’s popularity after last week’s season premiere averaged 3.3%/1.9% at the later time of 8.30, when it had the benefit of The Block NZ: Redemption as its lead-in.

TVNZ 1’s new game show, Ant & Dec’s Limitless Win, averaged 2.4%/1.9% (vs 4.5%/3.5% for The Chase Bloopers the previous Wednesday) while The Hotel Inspector slipped week-on-week from 2.3%/2.0% to 1.6%/1.4%.

TVNZ 2’s Celebrity Treasure Island averaged 2.1%/1.9% and Prime’s Cadbury Netball Series 0.6%/0.4%.

Earlier, TVNZ 1’s 1 News at Six and Seven Sharp were down sharply week-on-week, with Three’s The Project narrowly edging out the latter in the 18-49 race.

As a result Three scored a rare win with the night’s biggest peak 25-54 share of 25.8% (vs TVNZ 1’s 25.2%) and was competitive in the 18-49 demo (21.8% vs 23.6%).

TVNZ 2’s respective shares were 13.7%/16.4%.

Note: These overnight ratings exclude viewership of the networks’ +1 SD channels.
