HD Ratings: F&F Brings Down The House

Three looks to have a lock on Sunday nights over summer with the first entry in its Fast and Furious season revving up the ratings.

It averaged 4.1% of Three’s target audience, 25-54 year-olds, and won its slot in the other core commercial demographics, too (although among households shopper with kids only one-tenth of a rating point edged it ahead TVNZ 2’s network movie premiere of The House).

The popularity of the car racing franchise dwarfed the appeal of Prime’s network movie premiere of McLaren, which averaged only 0.6% of 25-54s (vs 2.9% for the previous Sunday’s premiere of Chernobyl).

TVNZ 1 dominated earlier in the night, with 1 News and Hyundai Country Calendar, while David Attenborough’s Tasmania was competitive but only won its slot with HHS/k.

TVNZ 2’s The Great Kiwi Bake Off out-rated Three’s The Block in every key demo except 18-49, which the latter narrowly won.

Three won the night with the biggest shares of 18-49s and 18-39s, and TVNZ 1 with 25-54s and HHS/k.

TVNZ 2 largely owned Saturday night with its movies Joyful Noise and The Hot Chick (although Three’s Snowtime! and Why Him? posted higher +1 numbers).

But TVNZ 2 blitzed the competition on Friday with back-to-back unbeatable Shortland Street, Santa Makes You Laugh Out Loud, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

Its 7.00-8.30 Thursday line-up was another crowdpleaser but Three’s re-run of Speed 2: Cruise Control largely left everything else in its wake.

Prime’s Chernobyl ended its stripped run with an impressive 2.2% of 25-54s and held up well in the other key demos, peaking with a HHS/k average of 2.9%.

Wednesday’s penultimate episode averaged 2.4% of 25-54s on a night that TVNZ 1 dominated in the 25-54 and 18-49 demos with 1 News, Seven Sharp, Shop Well for Less and How to Get a Good Night Sleep.

Three’s Hawaii Five-O fared well enough at 9.30 to win the hour in all the core demos while lead-in The Rookie was mostly competitive with TVNZ 2’s Hamish & Andy’s Perfect Holiday.
