HD Ratings: Grand Night for Grand Designs NZ

Grand Designs NZ drew up to twice as many 25-54 viewers as the season premieres of Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory on Wednesday.

The episode averaged 7.0% of Three’s most important commercial demographic compared to 5.5% for Young Sheldon and 4.8% for TBBT.

In GDNZ’s second half-hour, when it squared off against TBBT, its quarter-hour ratings increased to 7.3% and 8.1%.

In the 18-49 demo, GDNZ also out-rated TBBT (4.7% vs 4.4%) while the first half-hour only narrowly lost to Young Sheldon.

GDNZ also was competitive with TBBT in the 18-39 demo but trailed Young Sheldon by two rating points.

Only among household shoppers with kids did both sitcoms beat GDNZ outright.

GDNZ lead-out Gogglebox continues to struggle, with a 25-54 rating of only 3.3%, which saw it finish third after TVNZ 1’s World’s Wildest Weather Caught on Camera (4.7%), and 2’s second Big Bang ep (5.0%) and Kevin Can Wait (3.7%).

Gogglebox opened the hour with 5.5% of this demo and closed with 2.6%.

Its failure to capitalise on GDNZ’s lead-in also stymied Hawaii Five-O, which was beaten in the 25-54 race by Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation (1.8% vs 2.1%).

Generation was bolstered by 2’s improved comedy block and went on to  win the 9.30 hour in all the core demos.

2 easily won the night across all the key demos while Three finished third except among 18-39s.
