HD Ratings: Guardians Rules Universe

TVNZ 2’s counterprogramming success against TVNZ 1’s Commomnwealth Games coverage continued on Wednesday, when its re-run of the movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, topped the ratings in all the core demographics.

It averaged 6.5% of 25-54s, 5.7% of 18-49s, 5.5% of 18-39s and 9.1% of household shoppers with kids.

The Commonwealth Games rated second while Three’s American Idol trailed with averages of 0.8% – 2.8%.

TVNZ reports its combined Commonwealth Games channels reached 1,607,600 New Zealanders on Wednesday, “as many stayed away from the wild weather and glued to their TV screens”.

Viewing was strong throughout daytime. The netball reached 243,700 viewers on TVNZ 1 at 11am. The match was also streamed by nearly 7000 viewers (6,934) at the same time – TVNZ’s biggest hour for concurrent plays ever.

Back in primetime, among the key demos Idol was most popular with 25-54s (2.8%) and least watched by 18-39s (0.8%).

Idol lead-out NCIS: Los Angeles also took a hit, averaging only 1.4% of Three’s target audience, 25-54s.

Tuesday’s Idol fared marginally better, with 2.9% of 25-54s, against the games and TVNZ 2’s Toddlers Make You Laugh Out Loud and the first hour of Iron Man 2.

But the talent quest revival is averaging only a fraction of predecessor’s Married at First Sight Australia’s viewership.

TVNZ 2 won Wednesday night with the biggest peak shares of 18-49, 18-39 and HHS/k but TVNZ 1 edged it out for the 25-54 honours.
