HD Ratings: Home and Away a Home Run for TV2

D’oh! TV3’s scheduling of Simpsons re-runs at 5.30 weeknights failed to dent Home and Away’s appeal on Monday.

The ex-TV3 property averaged a staggering 7.6% – 13.7 % of the major demographics, compared to The Simpsons’ 1.4% – 2.7% and Millionaire Hot Seat’s 0.9% – 2.3%.

This time last year Home and Away was averaging 7.0% – 10.3% on TV3 compared with 1.8% – 2.7% for TV2’s 8 Simple Rules.

Despite the big boost for TV2 at 5.30 and corresponding loss for TV3, 3 News is holding its own at 6pm and proving competitive with One News except among household shoppers.

But TV One’s new-look Seven Sharp helped it to beat Campbell Live on Monday in all the key demos, despite the latter’s Pike Mine exclusive, and the network went on to markedly improve the rest of its peak-hour shares and ratings except, ironically, with its target 25-54 audience.

Its Monday instalment of MasterChef NZ posted a season high, averaging 5.2% – 9.8% compared to 4.4% – 7.2% last week.

Lead-out Person of Interest was about the same (3.3% – 8.4%), with a slight 25-54 lift, while The Following at 9.30 was up sharply, to 1.9% – 5.2% (from 0.8% – 2.9% last week).

They screened opposite TV3’s movie 12 Rounds (4.5% – 6.9%) and TV2’s unbeatable Super Fun Night (7.3% – 12.4%), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (6.0% – 7.9%) and The Walking Dead (5.2% – 8.1%).

TV2 also dominated earlier with Shortland Street (12.5% – 20.9%), The Middle (9.5% – 14.7%) and Trophy Wife (8.5% – 13.6%).

Monday’s peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:

  • Adults 18-49: TV One, 6.2 rating/21.6 share; TV2, 8.3 rating/28.7 share; TV3, 5.8 rating/20.2 share
  • Adults 18-39: TV One, 4.9 rating/18.4 share; TV2, 8.0 rating/29.8 share; TV3, 5.6 rating/21.1 share
  • Adults 25-54: TV One, 7.5 rating/23.2 share; TV2, 8.0 rating/24.7 share; TV3, 6.8 rating/21.0 share
  • HHS: TV One, 10.0 rating/24.3 share; TV2, 12.3 rating/29.7 share; TV3, 8.4 rating/20/4 share.
