HD Ratings: House Rules Makes Johnsons Mightier
The Almighty Johnsons gained in popularity on Thursday on the back of House Rules starting to rate through the roof.
The Aussie DIY challenge averaged 11.2% of household shoppers and 6.2% – 7.9% of other key demos to place well ahead of Coronation Street but behind Police Ten 7 and Code 1.
House Rules’ momentum helped to resurrect Norse gods dramedy Johnsons, which averaged 4.0% – 5.5% — it still finished third at 8.30 but was up sharply on previous weeks.
TV2’s Arrow dominated the hour, with 9.4% – 11.5% of the key demos.
At 9.00, TV One’s Winners and Losers rated 2.9% – 4.5% to beat TV3’s 9.30 re-run of Bones (2.2% – 2.6%) but not TV2’s 20/20.
Replacing Showtime after only one week with new episodes of Border Security on Wednesday jump-started TV One’s ratings at 8.00, with the premiere delivering One Born Every Minute a strong lead-in of 7.0% – 11.0%.
But TV2’s HD comedies still ruled the night while TV3’s 3rd Degree continued to struggle, with just 2.9% – 5.2%, despite extensive publicity about a sensational injustice scoop.
Part two of the Inside NZ doco about Helen Clark averaged merely 2.3% – 3.5% against TV2’s Devious Maids, which largely won the 9.30 hour with 4.7% – 8.3%.
On Tuesday, House Rules was no match for Mitre 10 Dream Home: the former averaged 4.1% – 6.4% and the latter, 9.6% – 17.7% (although it still lost to Dynamo: Magician Impossible in every key demo except 18-39).
TV2 dominated at 8.30 with The Mentalist (8.0% – 15.8%) and at 9.30 with Body of Proof (5.4% – 10.6%).
TV One’s First Crossings averaged 4.2% – 6.3% and Descent From Disaster, 1.8% – 3.7%, which was down on previous weeks but competitive with TV3’s Chicago Fire (2.2% – 4.1%).
